    The Weekender Countdown Begins

    March 22, 2018

    General Zod

West Coast Weekender's third installment approaches sooner than we think. Did I book my hotel room? Book my flight? Where do I get my Festival Pass? You know the drill. The music conference portion will take place at The Lafayette Hotel which will serve as headquarters May 3-7. Yes...somehow an extra day sneaked in there. Out of town travelers will participate in panel discussions, pool parties, pop up vinyl in-stores, and Ableton courses, while the main festival days will remain at The Worldbeat Center in North Park on Friday and Saturday. A stacked line up as usual will dictate the balance of proper clubbing and business entertainment. And for good reason since West Coast Weekender is an emerging contender in the festival space. Here's who we are excited about seeing. San Diego...Rest Up.

One half of the funky duo Soulclap, Eli (pictured above) keeps his roots firmly planted in their hometown of Boston. Always pushing new boundaries, always traveling through time and space, their exploits were made famous by sets at Movement, The Marcy Hotel, Fabric, The Electric Pickle and Bar25. A culmination of their sonic influences are a sounding board for original material, a framework for their own funky family and a spotlight on undiscovered talent from their hometown.

If you’re a fan of DNB, you most likely are familiar with the UK based DJ/Production duo know as Hybrid Minds. If you’re not, get ready to fall in love with them this May at the West Coast Weekender 2018. Their critically acclaimed album “Elements” was one of the top albums in 2017 which lead to numerous chart-topping remixes and releases. We’re extremely proud to welcome Hybrid Minds to San Diego for the very first time and can’t wait to hear what they have in store for all of us.

The Hyenah Manifesto: “I don’t care about how much money you make. I don’t care about what you own. I don’t care if you are fat or skinny. I don’t care about the color of your skin, about if you are black, white or yellow. I don’t care if you are gay, straight or something in between. I care about what you have to offer. That’s what is important to me. What we all have to offer is what is important. Our positive vibes, our warmth, our respect for each other, our love. Right here and right now. Not a click away. That’s why I do what I do. I want you to come together. I want us to RISE. That’s my mission. It is not about my face. It is about us.

A father, producer, dj, musicologist of sorts and a media revolutionary. Thats King Britt! From composing house tunes on Strictly Rhythm & Nervous Records. To Djing for Digable Planets, and starting the legendary Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink. To scoring music for Michael Mannʼs Miami Vice, to curating a full day at MoMA PS1 in New York. Again, that’s King Britt! Bridging the worlds of clubs, with experimental black music.

Nickodemus made a name for himself as a resident DJ of Giant Step, then as head of the long-running Turntables On The Hudson parties. Brooklyn & Beyond!. Nickodemus creates & plays music from all parts of the World. Rooted in Club Music from his upbringings in NYC. He’s had several ground-breaking albums. He’s also remixed for Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, Mr Scruff, Thievery Corporation, Miguel Migs, Quantic & many more.

“Always since I can remember, especially in the Austrian village I grew up in, I was surrounded by music” Says CASSY. “One of my first and strongest musical memories is of having a ladybird turntable, I played it so much it was demolished in the end.” Dare to ask what inspires her? Cassy replies: “Be yourself and if you can’t be yourself, be Chaka Khan.”

If you are seeking an envelope-pushing experience look no further than Oscar P. The San Diego - New York Transplant is undoubtedly one of the top producers in the game. His latest afro-romp “African Filtered Blues” with FNX remained at #1, then Top 10 for 2 months on Traxsource and Beatport. He’s forever in search of new music and talent to break, not only on his DJ outings, but on 2 of the top underground labels in the world that he operates - Open Bar Music and Kolour Recordings.

Fred Everything's signature style of party-friendly deep house is played by the top DJs in the world. His remixes of artists like Champion, Lawnchair Generals and Vincenzo & Lovebirds are staples on Spotify playlists. Upcoming dates at Incognito, Salted Music Miami and WCW prove he’s still on top of his game.
