Travel Channel says The Groove Cruise is the #1 place in the world to Get Your Groove On! from Groove Cruise on Vimeo.

Can you say ‘OVERBOARD’ for the 10 year anniversary?!  Here’s what’s new:

1) 4 DAYS!!  Ask and ye shall receive. The biggest complaint we get is that the Groove Cruise is too short to hang out with and meet your new best friends. Viola!

2) COZUMEL!!  We’ve been sailing to the Bahamas since 2005 so we’re bringing your largest floating edm fiesta back to the gorgeous island of Cozumel Mexico for the first time since the very first groove cruise in 2004. It’s been 10 years so its only fitting to sail back to where it all started!  Arriba!

3) PEARL!!  The Norwegian pearl is newer bigger and badder than our beloved Norwegian Sky. The haven suite complex is amazing, the pool deck stage will be UNREAL (and we’re covering one of the pools for your dancing pleasure), bowling in the club…dangerous, 11 restaurants and sooooo much more. Amaze.

4) 96 hours of non-stop electronic dance music by the worlds top DJs. If u thought u were tired and your legs hurt after 72 hours…HA!  We may need to wheelchair everyone off the ship lol.

An exclusive Q & A for Media Services NYC

MSNYC -  Tell us about how your music journey began in house music.

SM - I come from a family of music lovers so I grew up listening to all kinds of music. There was always music playing in the house, and it was a wide variety, so I was exposed to music from a very early age.

At around 12 I started collecting  my own records, and never really stopped, but it's in the mid nineties that I seriously started making my own music.
At the time I just had moved to London, and I was also going out a lot, specially to Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter's Space parties at Bar Rumba. I was there every Tuesday night, those parties had a real influence on my decision to start making my own tracks.

MSNYC - So lets talk about this new album. What was the process for the final song selections?

SM - There was no real selection, all the tracks have been made specially for the album. It took me about 2 years to complete it. When I started working on it, I had no idea of what I wanted to do, but there were two things that I wanted to avoid: First, I didn't want to have a collection of dancefloor tracks compiled together as an LP and secondly I didn't want a selection of lounging house tracks with some downtempo interludes and that sort of thing...

Those two simple ideas were my guidelines, I wanted to make a solid and coherent album that reflects my music taste: house, disco and soul vibes, blues influences, lots of guitars, pretty slow tempo, a music that will works either in clubs or at home or in your car.

MSNYC  - In this age of hybrid genres what kind of style do you consider the music you create, and why?

SM - Definitely House, house music is in the dna of all my tracks, they could be deep, soulful, disco or techno orientated, but they are primarily house.

MSNYC  - What software are you using to produce tracks these days.

SM - Ableton live for production, Logic Pro for mastering and some hardware equipment, I love to use  a mix of digital and analog gear, it really helps developing your own sound, for example when it comes to mixing down a track, using an hardware mixing desk is definitely a plus if you don't want to sound like everybody else...
Years ago, when I started making music, I was using hardware equipment only: a sampler, a few keyboards, and a computer running cubase with no audio, no vst's‚ĶThis is how I learned making music you know,  with this very basic equipment, and I think that was the best way to learn, to get the knowledge how to make the best out of a very limited equipment. I'm saying that because I think nowadays too many people are just buying Ableton Live and start releasing unachieved tracks within a couple of months. I think that's wrong, there is too much crap music out there.

MSNYC  -  You are located in Spain. Are you from there originally?

SM - No I'm French, I moved to Barcelona about 8 years ago, after a long time based in London.

MSNYC  -  Why do you think, your music style and productions have caught on with fans around the world?

SM - There is no easy answer to that, all I can say is that I'm very demanding regarding my music and that every single track or remix I've done, has been made with love and passion. I never and never will release a track or a remix that I didn't like 100%
I love to think that the fans can feel that, and I hope that's why they like my work.

MSNYC  -  Musically who do you listen to when u are not working? Who are your favorite producers?

SM - I'm a music addict. At home I listen to an amazing variety of artists and styles, lots of 60's and 70's soul, lots of blues, even spent some times recently listening to a lot of country music !
I think my favorite producers are Brian Wilson, and Lamont Dozier and Brian & Eddie Holland.

MSNYC  -  What do you consider the best place to Dj in the world?

SM - I love to play in the UK for the clubbers and in the US for the Sound Systems!

MSNYC  -  Favorite track you've ever produced

SM - All the twelve tracks on Slove.
On 12" : Six Nine on Kolour Recordings.

MSNYC - What releases and remixes do you have planned for this year?

SM - I've been doing a lots of remixes recently, some are out already, and the others should be released soon. I did one for Dessous Recordings, a couple for Dutchie Music, a new one for Reagan Grey on Savoir Faire Music that I'm really happy with...

Apart from that I've got some new stuff that should be release soon on my own label Stratospherik, stuff from me and stuff from friends.

MSNYC - Any plans to tour to support the album?

SM - Sure, I don't have the details yet, but definitely !

MSNYC -  Looks like the remixes for "Always There" are out on Traxsource and Beatport. Tight package! Jonasclean, Aki Bergen, Daniel Jaze, 9Lives, Evren Furtuna, Dj Peace, and myself, Oscar P

Support From: Pezzner, Sunshine Jones, Giom, Nick Holder, Shur-i-kan, Pol_On, Norm Talley, Lars Behrenroth, Pablo Fierro, Kirby, Marques Wyatt , Loz Goddard, Lukas Greenberg, Matt Masters, DJ Peace, Kylou, Kiko Navarro, Graeme Park, Cookie Monsterz, Tony Humphries, DJ Dove, Mannix, Jevne, Jonny Cade, Nacho Marco, Lee Jarvis, Doc Link and many more.

The 2013 Movement Electronic Music Festival, taking place Memorial Day weekend inside Detroit’s Hart Plaza, is excited to announce Red Bull Music Academy’s move to the main stage featuring headlining performances by techno legends Richie Hawtin, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, in addition to the eclectic Squarepusher performing live.

For the past six years, Red Bull Music Academy has infused new sounds to the festival while showcasing groundbreaking artists into the scene. This year the main stage will also present unsung legends like Adult, Mala and Moodymann in addition to artists who are on the brink of making waves in the industry, including Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Nicolas Jaar and Academy graduates TOKiMONSTA, Onra, xxxy, T.Williams, and Nick Hook.

“The energy and passion that RBMA brings to the festival is unlike any other in the industry,” said Jason Huvaere, President of Paxahau, producers of the festival. "The move to the main stage will offer fans the next level of sound and lighting production, in addition to a vigorous lineup of performers.”

This year’s Movement coincides with the Red Bull Music Academy’s 15th edition that is currently in session in New York City. For more info head here: www.redbullmusicacademy.com.

Yesterday, Beatport unveiled its stage lineup, including headliners MOBY performing a DJ set, Masters at Work (Kenny Dope & Louie Vega) and John Digweed. The online electronic dance music giant will mix up its footprint by moving to the east riverfront area of Hart Plaza, also known as the “pyramid” stage.

The annual Electric Forest Festival will be curating a stage alongside Paxahau for the first time ever. The EFF stage will feature an array of today’s top and up-and-coming artists in the electronic music scene, including Gramatik, The M Machine - live, GRiZ and many more; Andy C, Brodinski and Big Gigantic will headline.

Visit www.movement.us for a map of the festival grounds, including all five stages and a list of the 116 performers.

The Movement Electronic Music Festival features: five technologically-rich outdoor stages; more than 115 artists; free Wi-Fi access on the grounds; a posh VIP setting located behind the main stage; dozens of official afterparties; an interactive technology center featuring the hottest gear in the industry; and several art displays to stimulate the senses. Julius the Mad Thinker: Interview http://www.mediaservicesnyc.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1200:julius-the-mad-thinker-interview&Itemid=26 http://www.mediaservicesnyc.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1200:julius-the-mad-thinker-interview&Itemid=26 Julius the Mad Thinker: Interview

Julius the Mad Thinker talks new projects, Mi Casa Holiday, and creating music on his iPhone.

Tell us about how your music journey began in house music.

When I was attending sixth grade at Illinois Park School in Elgin, IL, there was a new kid from Chicago who was moved to our class. Our teacher recognized that he had the attention of all the kids, so she struck a deal with him in order to gain complete control over the classroom. The agreement was that if our teacher (Ms. Larson) granted David (Chicago kid) one wish, David would make sure that everyone paid attention and did their classroom work. David agreed and requested that everyday during lunch, instead of going to the lunch room, our classmates could stay in the classroom and listen to the Hot Mix 5 lunch time mixes on the radio. That was 1984 and basically the beginning.

So lets talk about this new album. What was the process for the final song selections?

I'm in the middle of a significant project with an amazing artist named Lance Ayers with our Aid to the SouLLess production team. Over the past three years, I've written about 25 songs. For this particular process, I thoroughly interviewed Lance over a few months, then wrote stories which turned into songs about our lives and common themes where they intertwined. The 10 songs that tell the most powerful story will be selected.

In this age of hybrid genres what kind of style do you consider the music you create, and why?

The last few years, I've written from an almost folk rock perspective. I like to hear unique and/or amazing voices singing a great story over an acoustic guitar. Depending who I select to sing, the song could take shape as a dance record, alternative rock, or an R&B Soul ballot. As long as I can produce the song where the musicians and vocalists can connect with the parts, or the message in the song in a touching way, & the story can be told with passion and authenticity, the genre isn't as important to me.

What software are you using to produce tracks these days.

Logic, protools, reason, all types of external gear and instruments. Whatever it takes to match the intent of the song.

You are located in Chicago. Are you from there originally?

Yes, from Elgin, IL(45 min west of Chicago)

Why do you think, your music style has caught on with fans around the world?

The world really hasn't heard what I have to offer as a music producer. Most of my fans follow me through my DJ sets and event productions. However, for the few songs that have been released, the feedback was been that they are really good songs like "After the Rain" on Aid to the SouLLess music. Some people recognize the intensity, drama and passion like in "One Night" on Phuture Sole Recordings.

Musically who do you listen to when u are not working? Who are your favorite producers?

Prince,  Nicola Conte, Henrik Schwarz, Osunlade, Azymuth, Louie Vega

What do you consider the best place to Dj in the world?

Wow...that is tough because there are different reasons for different cities.

Playa del Carmen, Mx because I've never seen so many new people excited and turned out on the music I play at the same time.

Miami during WMC because every kind of DJ and music enthusiast is sending crazy energy to you.  It's super hype!

Detroit during movement because of the intensity of the beats in the music you've heard before your set.

Manila, Philippines because I've never seen a place where 100% of the culture had rhythm and knew how to dance, especially being 20hrs by plane away from my home.

Atlanta because you can keep the tempo slow with lots of beautiful vocals.

New York because there are the most gifted and inspiring dancers, and most open-minded listeners.

Last, but certainly not least, there is no place in the world like Chicago.  It's the root of the electronic dance world, so you have to be on your a++++++ game at all time.

Favorite track you've ever produced?

"Love Life Spirit". Crazy jazz track I produced along with Monkeynutz & Kai Alexander

"Déjàme" inspired by Jeannie Fernandez

"What i See" feat Lance Ayers

Any plans to tour this year?

Touring season starts when the MCH Season starts (http://micasaholiday.com). March 17th, 2013 @ The Vagabond in Miami, Fl. I will tour throughout the US and beyond up until the MCH Season Finale October 10-13, 2013 in Playa del Carmen, Mx

What is the one piece of kit that you couldn’t be without in your studio?

Funny as it may sound, my iPhone because I write all my songs in the note section and record all my melodies in voice memo.  As long as I have that, I can produce anything.

What personal piece of music or remix has stood out for you and why?

Raphael Gualazzi - Fantasy and Reality(Giles Peterson remix)

Great song and a super cool remix approach.  Love it!

What do you most like to do when away from the studio or gigging?

When I'm not gigging or touring, I'm generally focused in on event production.  When Im free, which is rare, I'm hanging out with Susanna(amazing wife) making her laugh.

Favourite track of all time?

Off the top of my head, Children at play (Mr. Fingers)

Track you would most like to remix?

New York by Alicia Keys

Favourite club?

Dolphin (Chicago) & The Vagabond (Miami), Cielo (New York)

Favourite City?

Chicago

Media Mail Bag 2: Todd Terry http://www.mediaservicesnyc.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1077:media-mail-bag-2-todd-terry&Itemid=26 http://www.mediaservicesnyc.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=1077:media-mail-bag-2-todd-terry&Itemid=26 Media Mail Bag 2: Todd Terry

Todd Terry: Cracks the second installment of our new Mailbag. You ask the questions. Your favorite DJs, Artists, and Producers will answer them.

Our second installment of our new Mailbag is finally here. You ask the questions. Your favorite DJs, Artists, and Producers will answer them. Inhouse Records  head Todd Terry needs no introduction. You know who he is, what he's done, where he's been. To the Bat Mobile Lets gooooooo.

LISTEN. READ. LEARN. LIVE.

Grant Nelson / UK asks

Why do record labels that send out promos with 25 tracks in them? Every time I see one of those I don't bother listening to any of them. Is It reasonable to expect anybody to preview 25 or download 25 tracks one at a time. I hope your not talking about my InHouse Records Grant.

Todd Terry - I hear you on these labels, I am overwhelmed by promos myself. I agree with you. Send me the best you got and if I'm interested I will seek you out.  I don't want to do their A&R for them. I hope you aint talking about me. :)

L. Machuca / Vancouver aks

For all you vinyl maniacs and old school dj's. You all know we have classic tracks we would like to play out but now that we all play in the digital world this is hard to do. You can buy and find most of the tracks and some you can't or the files are shit quality. My questions is. What's the quickest easiest and best way to transfer vinyl to digital? l need to know cause I've been doing it myself and I get great results but its time consuming. Please answer if you have the solution.

Todd Terry - I have to say that you're right. Some really great stuff is not available online, but overall it's much easier to find those deep tracks online than humping it to the shops and looking through bins.  As for transferring from vinyl to digital, the quickest thing I found was this Numark USB turntable for around $100. All you do is plug into your computer and it pops the tracks right into your iTunes.  Quick and easy.

Shelly T. / Brooklyn NYC aks

Whats the best music program to use? I just started producing tracks and there are many. What do you use and why?

Todd Terry - The best program is the one that helps YOU create. It could be a $100K Protools rig or as simple as Garage Band, whatever works for you.  As for me I use Protools and Logic. Most of the time it's Logic because I can start a session on my Mac Pro tower and take it on the road on my Mac Book, tweak it, then FTP the file to my engineer to do a mix, get it back, add to it, and then bring it back to do a final mix. The ability to run all the same plugins' both AU and all the virtual synths on all my computers and my engineers computer, and have it actually WORK is amazing.

DJ Assassin / San Jose, CA asks

I've been djing locally for years. Cool parties, decent fan base and all that. But when i talk to promoters in different cities they don't really care. How do we make them give a shit?

Todd Terry - All promoters give a shit about is how many tickets you can sell. They are not in the business of developing your career.  Once you accept that, you will start to develop you own fans, and not rely on promoters for gigs.  Through my label I still do tour support and promotion for all my shows worldwide. I don't assume the promoter will promote. I bring my own crowd to every show.  Even if I'm paid in advance I don't want to fly somewhere and play for a few people, I want every show packed, and I make sure that happens.

William A / New York asks

What the best way to make your label know to the world while there so many to compete with?

Todd Terry - Put out great tracks, sign great artists, develop a group of loyal fans, never let them down.  Do it all over again and again and again.....Trust me this shit is hard.

Linden Abrams / Joburg, South Africa aks

Why do different circles of Djs & Promoters always keep there platforms within there own circles?

Todd Terry - Control and power. If you want into the circle you need to bring your own power.  If you want to do business you need to bring something to the table of value. If you can do that, then you get a seat.

George L / Washington Heights, NY asks

What's going to happen when DJs no longer use there hands to play music, but simply there minds?

Todd Terry -   Then they can jump up and down and pump their fist for the whole show.

Got questions? Send them in to info@mediaservicesnyc.com.

No topic is taboo. Lets go.
